Update on NPP Upper Denkyira East and West 2020 primaries

On the 20th June 2020 ,Npp cast votes to select their members of Parliament for the December 2020 general election.

The Npp delegates of Upper Denkyira East and West of central region of Ghana has shown their kokromoti power on the aspirants who stood for the position of member of Parliament for the constituency respectively.


In upper Denkyira East constituency, four aspirants contested for the seat namely Hon. Nana Amoako ( sitting mp), Nii Duodo , Dr. Festus kwoffie and Mr. Charles. After the election, the following results pops up , Dr . Kwoffie Festus had 279 votes, Hon Nana Amoako had 243votes, Nii Duodo had 61 votes and Mr. Charles also had 15 votes.

Dr. Festus kwoffie was crown as the member of parliament elect for upper Denkyira East for Npp. Hon Nana Amoako has been the member of parliament for 16 years for the constituency . In his term in office nothing can be point at as an achievement for the constituency during his 4 terms in office. However , delegates has put his service to an end by voting in a new member of parliament.

Upper Denkyira East seems to be gearing to a success move if the newly member of parliament elect Dr. Festus kwoffie win the 2020 general election.

The other face is upper Denkyira west which had two aspirants, Namely, Hon . Samuel Nsowah Djan ( sitting mp) and Former member of parliament the upper Denkyira west, Kofi Benjamin Ayeh. After the election, The sitting member of parliament Hon. Nsowah Djan won with 263 votes against former MP Benjamin Ayeh who had 143 votes.

This state clearly that, upper Denkyira west don’t really need Benjamin Ayeh again. Benjamin Ayeh spent 4 terms in office as member of parliament of which nothing can be boosted of in the constituency.

This is what we reported after his first defeat in 2015 to this same Hon. Nsowah Djan.

“” The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West constituency, Benjamin Kofi Ayeh has said he is not surprised by his defeat in the party’s parliamentary primaries.

The former Deputy Minority Chief Whip on Saturday lost to Samuel Nsowah Djan, a teacher and a businessman who polled 220 votes as against his 115.

Nsonwah is also the current Presiding Member for the Upper Denkyira West District Assembly in the Central Region.

Speaking to richghana news Benjamin Ayeh conceded defeat and asked the NPP  to devise measures put  measures secure more seats for the party in the 2016 elections

“I wasn’t very surprised so for someone to win, that should be normal.Clearly they have spoken and we should go by it but I believe the political parties can themselves decide on how to get the needed MPs in the chamber.”

A total number of 335 delegates out of 337 voted in the constituency.

The constituency formed part of the 30 other constituencies which could not vote in the NPP’s June 13 primaries.

This was due to some outstanding issues over the qualification of the candidates who were contesting in those constituencies.

However, only 9 constituencies out of the 30 were cleared to hold their primaries on Saturday. “”
